Dan Pitt’s Opinionated Compendium of Downtown Palo Alto Restaurants
Modern Korean-fusion restaurant Maum has actually opened at 322 University Avenue (where Madam Tam resided), squeezed in between Slider Bar Cafe and Aroy Thai Bistro. But there are no signs, and they don’t take walk-ins. It’s for private parties only, with customized menus and wine list based on what you want, all arranged in advance. The one (long) table seats a maximum of 20 diners, so your party cannot be larger than that. I believe it’s possible to bring a smaller party and share the table with another party, but I would be surprised if they accommodated more than two parties at a time. If they accommodated only one party at a time, I would not be surprised. I don’t have the restaurant’s phone number (just the CEO’s). I will add it when I get it.
Meanwhile, Vero has ended its run on Bryant. I was actually surprised that they lasted this long. I liked it quite a bit at first, especially their personal recipes and well-chosen Italian wine list. But I did not find it special enough, in ambiance or price-performance, to warrant my returning very often at all. In any event, Vero had a long run (right after L’Amie Donia – who remembers that?), so I’d call the venture a success. Not timeless, like Osteria, but not bad.

Maum is open, not that you can tell; Vero is closed, and you can tell
