Last summer Amber Dhara closed for a remodel, including the outdoor patio at High and University, and during the renovation the signage appeared to indicate that the restaurant would be rebranded as GupShup. When they reopened the name Amber Dhara reappeared but I wondered if they were using the brand GupShup somewhere so I left it in the Restaurants page under Indian along with Amber Dhara. Now they are both gone.
Occupying the space this summer will be Sweet Maple, branching (brunching?) out from San Francisco. Sweet Maple serves only breakfast and lunch, and they really love breakfast, and sweet things, from their syrups and the dishes they’re poured on to their special bacon. They do serve salads, sandwiches, paninis, and even burgers at lunch, plus some “morning pizzas” (new to me). Plain eggs run $13; most others are $17-22 so this isn’t Ann’s Coffee Shop.
Also, Pluto’s finally fell out of orbit after 20 years. It served us admirably well in its own unabashed style for 20 years. RIP.

Amber Dhara: Fits, starts, stops
