O2 Valley, where Palermo, Umami Burger, and most recently Gyros Gyros resided at 452 University, has finally opened. The Taiwanese menu celebrates Bento-box meals (predominantly chicken or pork chop) but also has tempura and other, mostly fried, dishes. The portions are reported to be large, especially in the meat department; there are a couple of vegetarian dishes. Beverages are either tea based or milk based and there is no alcohol. Service and take-out service are fast. I wonder if we will see Gyros Gyros back in its old spot on the corner of Cowper now that the retail spots in the Graduate Hotel have been refurbished. Already the President Barber Shop has moved back to its old quarters after a year on Hamilton.
Meanwhile, Garden Fresh, the all-vegetarian Chinese restaurant on Ramona, suddenly closed. This was a very traditional sort of vegetarian restaurant that had a lot of imitation meat dishes (with seitan and stuff like that, not Impossible meat).
And it looks like something new is happening at the shell of the Old Pro on Ramona. The name of the new licensee gives nothing away about the cuisine to be offered so we will just bate and wait (our breath, that is).
